iPhone Application Review: Suzy Dress Up

Suzy Dress Up is a great imaginative and creative play application for the iPhone.  Small iPhone users can choose from a huge variety of “Suzy” to dress.  Light skinned, dark skinned, blue skinned, and pinked skinned Suzy are just some of the options, with or without wings.  Once the Suzy type has been selected, there are twelve icons that will aide in dressing Suzy up.  Her hair, lips, eyes, shirt, skirt, shoes, accessories, and even a small pet are all the choice of the user.  By tapping the icon, that feature will change on the Suzy model.

Pros of this iPhone application:

-          A lot of choices

-          Great, colorful graphics

Cons of this iPhone application:

-          The final Suzy can not be saved to any file or shared

-          There is no way to start fresh.  The Suzy model remains wearing whatever the last creation was

-          The icon needs to be tapped to go through all of the choices, rather than seeing all the choices at once and choosing from them

Overall:

Suzy Dress Up is a great, inexpensive application that will keep young minds engaged with creative play.  Overall, this application is a four out of five.

Mobile Marketing: 50 Ways to Promote Your iPhone App

A nearly perfect mobile marketing plan and follow-up execution will fall short if the underlying app is uninspiring, bug-ridden or unremarkable. In addition, a well-designed, compelling app thrown in the mix of 50,000+ apps and unsupported by marketing, would likely disappoint. App Marketing 101: Pricing your iPhone App – Art and Science

It has been said that pricing is as much an art as it is a science. There is no doubt that pricing is a challenging prospect with any product in this economy, but especially with iPhone apps because they have taken some of their pricing cues from iTunes songs, sold cheaply but huge volumes. With the current iPhone app price hovering around $2.85, many developers, however, are simply following the herd, pricing their apps at $.99 in an attempt to gain acceptance and market share.

iPhone app developers would do well to carefully examine all aspects of pricing as it pertains to their product, make careful pricing decisions, monitor and measure sales results, and make adjustments as needed to maximize their revenue. You can maximize sales results for your app through better marketing and marketing includes spending some time on the challenging area of pricing.

You should consider a number of factors when pricing your iPhone app. For starters, look at competing apps in your category and then ask yourself the following questions:

  • How much do competitors charge for a similar app? Take a look at the AppStore and review how many apps are similar to yours. Have you produced another Battleship game that is similar to other apps or is it far better? Be honest! Read more…

How to Market Your iPhone App By Neal Adam Hamou

The iPhone is quickly emerging as the premiere wireless smart phone device in the U.S. Most recently it has added to its efficiency with the 3G connectivity feature and a more robust battery life, bringing even smarter phone users to date. For this reason the apple iPhone app market has soared. I have found it incredibly hard to avoid the latest commercial in which the use of an iPhone app was implemented to find a restaurant by food preference.

Marketing an iPhone application seems like it would be as easy as putting out a brochure in the mail. But if you have tried, it may not have appeared to be that easy. So these are some of best thoughts on possible ways you might want to market your iPhone apps.

Find your audience

What type of people will use your product? How does your product fit the needs of apple iPhone users? Is it unique in its creation or an alternative or improvement to already existing apple iPhone software applications? Do you know if your product would be popular with a certain apple iPhone user demographic?

iPhone App Marketing Data

iPhone App Marketing Data

by Brook Lenox on June 11, 2010

The more data the better when you are making iPhone app marketing decisions.

Perhaps you’re asking:

Should I develop my iPhone app for the Blackberry or Android Platform or both?

If my app hits a top category ranking, how long will it stay there?

Where’s the best place to spend my mobile ad dollars?

Three reports help me find answers to these types of questions:

  • Admob Mobile Metrics Report
  • Distimo Report
  • Millennial Media’s S.M.A.R.T. Report

Admob Mobile Metrics Report

Admob has a monthly metrics report that it’s been publishing since September 2007. It is based on data they collect from the over 18 billion ad requests they receive monthly.

So if you’re trying to answer: “Should I develop my iPhone app for the Blackberry or Android Platform or both?”

You may want to peruse their reports. By combining a survey they did to developers in mid March with their monthly report, I’d say Android is currently a bigger and faster growth opportunity for apps.

Not that you should just follow the crowd, but this March survey suggests that more than 70% of iPhone app developers plan to develop for the Android platform in the next 6 months. On the other hand, only 15% of developers plan to develop for the Blackberry platform.

How To Market your iPhone App

iPhone App Review Sites

by Brook Lenox on July 9, 2010

iPhone App Review SitesIn my opinion it can be a GREAT win to get a positive review on an iPhone app review site.

Would you agree?

Maybe you tried and either got no or bad reviews.

Here are some questions you might have:

  • Why is it even important to get reviewed by iPhone app review sites?
  • Which sites should I approach for reviews?
  • How do I put my best foot forward with these sites?

Why is it even important to get reviewed by iPhone app review sites?

There are a lot of reasons to get your apps reviewed:

  • People use these sites!
  • App review sites will drive people to your app, generating downloads that will drive it up in the iTunes rankings
  • A great quote in a review can be a nice addition to your app description
  • Links from your reviews to your app website can help your SEO efforts
  • Bigger tech sites (like TechCrunch) can see these reviews
  • Apple may find you on one of these sites and promote your app

NOTE: That being said, most of the time app reviews alone will not drive your apps into top ranking. This should just be one of the things in your marketing plan.

iPhone Application Review: Wurd

Wurd is a fun, challenging, and addictive game application for the iPhone.  The basic objective of the game is to decide if the word provided on the screen is “real” or “fake.”   The more correct answers the player chooses, earns higher scores and bonus points, which leads to advancement up the leader board.  The player needs to choose carefully, because not only is there a timer, but there are only three lives to lose and then the game is over.  The game also offers a feature to review the games played and improve your vocabulary by seeing which words you have thought were correct, but in fact, were not.

Pros of this iPhone application:

-          Easy and fun to play

-          Interesting words to learn

Cons of this iPhone application:

-          Sound effects are a little bothersome

-          Doesn’t offer a definition any of the words

Overall:

Wurd is a fun game application for the iPhone for those people who like word puzzles and games.  Overall, this application is a four out of five.

iPhone Application Review: Real Taro Pro

Real Taro Pro is a virtual taro card reading application.  From the menu screen, the user can choose from a number of different “spreads.”  This will determine the number of cards dealt out and how they are arranged on the table.    The spreads are broken down in to categories: general, love, and relationships, family, home, and spiritual, business and career.  Within each of these categories, the user can find a number of different options ranging from one card to as many as nine or ten cards.  Once the spread is chosen, the user actually chooses a face down card by tapping the screen.  The picture on the card is revealed, with it an explanation of what the card actually symbolizes, and a relevant analysis to what the user is looking for.

Pros of this iPhone application:

-          Very comprehensive in terms of explanation and different card layouts

Cons of this iPhone application:

-          The user chooses the cards as they pass by on the screen as opposed to the cards being dealt to the user

Overall:

Real Taro Pro is a thorough taro card application for the iPhone, good for anyone who is interested in taro readings.  Overall, this application is a four out of five.
